LANEIGE X MATIN KIM Dresses Up Skincare in Seoul-Cool Black

Black never really goes out of style, does it? And when it comes to beauty, we certainly don’t mind having a little more of it.

The latest LANEIGE x MATIN KIM collaboration has given some of LANEIGE’s familiar skincare and makeup favourites a rather fashionable makeover, with everything from the packaging to the accessories wrapped up in MATIN KIM’s signature all-black aesthetic.

And for someone who has a soft spot for black, I was already sold.

Why MATIN KIM?

Perhaps what makes this collaboration interesting is how naturally MATIN KIM’s style translates into beauty. The Seoul-based fashion label has built its name around easy, wearable pieces with an intentionally relaxed look, and that same attitude comes through here without making the products look overly complicated.

Instead of dressing the skincare up with loud prints or throwing a hundred colours at it, MATIN KIM keeps things simple. Black packaging, simple shapes and accessories that can actually be carried around make the collection feel much closer to something you would pick up from a fashion store than a conventional beauty counter.

And that is exactly why I like it.

The limited-edition collection brings together the NEO Essential Blurring Finish Powder, NEO Cushion Mewy, Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Moisture Cream and the new JuicePop Box Lip Tint Mono Tune.

I have already secured the NEO Essential Blurring Finish Powder with its limited-edition makeup pouch, and yes, I got one for my friend too. Because some things are simply too good not to share.

The powder gives the skin a soft-matte, blurred finish while Blue Hyaluronic Acid helps keep it comfortable and hydrated. But the pouch may just be the part that makes it extra tempting. Dressed entirely in black with MATIN KIM’s look, it is the kind of makeup bag that can actually leave the house without needing to be hidden inside another bag.

Then there is the JuicePop Box Lip Tint Mono Tune, which is perhaps the most playful piece of the lot. It looks like a black gloss in the tube, but turns into a personalised plum-pink shade when it meets your natural lip pH. It also comes with a mirror keyring and metal chain strap, so you can clip it onto your bag or even your denim.

Talk about making your beauty products work overtime.

The NEO Cushion Mewy gets the same treatment, with a convertible duffle bag offered as a gift with purchase, while the Water Bank Blue Hyaluronic Moisture Cream comes with the same limited-edition bag.

What I like most about this collection is the all-black colour palette. It is simple, but it gives the products a completely different attitude. I can see myself leaving the powder on my desk or pulling the lip tint out of my bag without feeling like I have just taken out another brightly coloured beauty product.

And because this is a limited-edition collection, these are not the sort of pieces I would leave sitting in a shopping cart for too long. I have already got mine, and I have got one for my friend too.
